Jobs that Machines may not dominate human in near Future

New Technologies like Artificial intelligence (AI), Augmented reality, 3D printing … will change the way we go through our daily routines, the way we do our businesses and interact with each other. AI/ML will surely replace many repetitive tasks like call centers, manual labor, and may go up to executive positions. Machines are becoming intelligent. The machine understands the individual better and remembers too. Virtual is a new reality. Not only it will have talking technologies assistants for second opinions and what not.

I am often asked by my friends and relatives after watching TV shows and reading news articles on the new automation happenings across the globe. Like what kind of jobs the next generations would work for?

So, what kind of Jobs machine may not dominate humans in the near future? Why I always say near future? No one can imagine what the future say 50 years will be from now with the rapid pace the technology is changing. The demarcation between academic research, company building Most lovable products to the commercialization of products is getting thinner day by day.

Machines are exceptionally good when coming to accuracy, and consistency. However, they are not good to negotiate online and offline data. They are not designed to integrate social interactions across domains and come up with a working hypothesis that explains human behaviors. In other words, AI will augment professionals, offering them expertise and assistance. But it still takes creativity to ask the right question, the question that guides one toward the desired outcome.

Advances in artificial intelligence like transfer learning, GAN, Reinforcement learning, meta-learning undoubtedly have made expert systems far more powerful in accelerating knowledge. Behind all this is still human who decides when and where to apply these technologies. It is a human who is required to decide where and how new technologies are to be deployed. And which key decisions are turned over to machines. Although automation has made the process of turning data into useful information faster than ever, it hasn’t done away with the human task of endowing information with meaning and acting on that information creatively

I personally feel as humans we are good at the following skill which I cannot imagine machine will take away in the near future.

Creativity: Machines can produce creative works only in imitation of input, and it does so without understanding and consciousness. They are rather brutal in achieving the goal set for them. As humans, we can come up with ideas or artifacts that are new, surprising, and valuable.

Imagination: Machines can do best what they have learned. Today they cannot dream, think and act beyond the scope of what they learned. Jobs that require thinking and visioning bring tremendous value which machine probably can never in the near future be capable of.

Empathy: As humans, we know the consequences what we do. Machines don’t have the capacity to express one’s emotions and handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically. Machines cannot have a human touch.

Strategical thinking: Humans can ask for an adviser and learn from coach and mentor that they can trust in and offer up ideas for feedback. They can recognize future opportunities and guide future direction for themselves as well as to their organizations. Machines are good only at execution, probably some complex tasks and work towards achieving their goal of what they were made to learn and told to. Rather they are tactical.

Communication skills: Humans are able to relate to and understand each other in ways that machines are unlikely to achieve anytime soon. And jobs that require good communication skills and negotiation will always be there.

Multitasking: Today machines are able to do multitasking in the specialized domain for which they have been trained for. But the human mind is able to radically generalize to something different. As humans, we can generalize the job at hand and plus do something different in case of need arises.

Yes, machines are not going to take away the above skills in the near future. The reason machines do best what they have learned from. They cannot go beyond the scope and boundary they have been trained for. Humans have more creative ability to think and come up with new prospects/ possibilities may be in case of emergencies and quick decisions which might. Also, these machines are able to do by taking our privacy away. With the new rules of GDPR and other data privacy rules being implemented, it will bring in a new challenge to the whole of this automation and partially show down the growth.

Machines are great at optimizing, but not so great at goal-setting. Machines Are Tactical. Humans Are Strategic. In retrospect, I can say Machines are far behind what human minds are capable of.

I leave with these final thoughts of Garry Kasparov, the famous chess grandmaster, and now an AI researcher,

He proposed a new meaning for AI that we like — AI should stand for Assisted Intelligence. Human intelligence assisted by a machine’s deep domain expertise makes an unbeatable combination.
